<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which cap cope with quick start while saving space and an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: In a fixing device 11 having at least fixing members 31 and 203, external heating members 101 and 301 shaped along surfaces of the fixing members 31 and 203 are disposed on the surfaces in opposition to each other with a prescribed gap distance secured between them and are configured so that the gap distance can be changed, and the external heating member 101 is brought into contact with the fixing member 31 at least during stop of the fixing member 31 and is separated from the fixing member 31 during operation of the fixing member 31, and the external heating member 301 is capable of variably controlling the gap in a sub-scanning direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
