<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external docking station in which a removable data storage unit can communicate with a computer system through interface connection such as a USB connector. <P>SOLUTION: A removable data storage cartridge 90 is inserted vertically into the external docking station 100. The external docking station 100 has an illumination take-out press button 103 informing a state of the data storage cartridge 90 when reading/writing operation is performed in a cartridge. A cartridge opening 104 enables that the data storage cartridge 90 is inserted only in one direction. The data storage cartridge 90 is connected to the external docking station 100 through a SATA connector.
