PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recording apparatus and a video recording method which can record data without allowing excess of the residual capacity of a recording medium, into a recording medium desired by a user as much as possible. SOLUTION: A video record reservation section 11 accepts designation of video recording reservation for giving priorities to a plurality of media to automatically set a medium for recording the content of a received program in accordance with the priorities. If a medium for executing recording based on the video recording reservation is automatically set immediately before recording the reserved program, a video recording control unit 12 successively selects a medium having a higher priority, judges whether or not the selected medium can record the content of the reserved program, and if judges that recording is possible, sets the selected medium as a medium for recording the content of the reserved program.
