PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring system that measures the flow rate of flowing water in an open channel to determine a water level of the flowing water from the flow velocity of a flow meter in the open channel; detects abnormal variations of the water level to alert; and eliminates influence of floatages such as air bubbles of the flowing water and contaminants. SOLUTION: (1) The system includes a water level calculating means that calculates the water level of the flowing water from the flow velocity; an alerting means that detects the deposition of the contaminants from the difference between the calculated water level and an actual water level; and a flow rate calculating means that calculates the flow rate of the flowing water based on the flow velocity and the calculated water level. (2) Further, a flow velocity sensor that adopts a force sensor as a flow velocity sensor for measuring the flow velocity and highly precise and reliable. (3) The sensor includes an FBG (fiber Bragg grating) in which the force sensor detects loaded stress and a load mechanism that loads the stress to the FBG. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
