PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foundation structure which can prevent a construction from collapsing without execution of wide-range soil improvement of liquidized ground, and to provide a method of constructing the foundation structure. SOLUTION: The foundation structure 1 is constructed of a footing 3 as a direct foundation structure constituting part of a viaduct 2 as the construction, and a box structure 5 constructed in the liquidized ground 4. The box structure is positioned to the footing 3 such that its upper peripheral edge 6 adjoins along a lower peripheral edge 7 of the footing 3. The box structure 5 is a soil improved body obtained by injecting a chemical into the ground, and therefore shear deformation of internal ground 8 enclosed by the box structure is arrested. Provided that a width of the footing is represented by W, and a height of the box structure 5 by D, a ratio of D/W is set such that increase of neutral pressure in the liquidized ground 4 at the time of an earthquake is more restricted in the inside of the box structure 5 than in the outside of the same.
