METHOD FOR DETERMINING A VISIBILITY RANGE USING A CAMERA

Method for determining a visibility range using a camera that is preferably provided for detection of the surroundings as well. A prerequisite for the application of the method is that the relative velocity v_rel of the camera and at least one recorded object in the surroundings is not equal to zero. A trajectory of at least one object where v_rel is not equal to zero is predicted and a plurality of measurement windows are placed along the trajectory. The distance between the objects imaged in the measurement windows and the camera is determined and the visibility range is ascertained from an image contrast of a measurement window or parts of a measurement window and the associated distance. At least two contrast measurements at different distances are used for evaluation.
