A video display device and a method for preventing an afterimage thereof are provided to change brightness of a pixel in a block unit according to change of brightness(luminance) of a still image for the time when a user can not recognize, thereby preventing the afterimage caused by the still image. A video display device comprises the followings: a video processor(20) for performing video processing of a video signal so as to be suitable for a format of a display(50); a display driving unit(40) for outputting a driving signal so that the display(50) can be driven according to the video signal outputted from the video processor(20); the display(50) for displaying a corresponding video according to the driving signal of the display driving unit(40); a key input unit for receiving a request command of a user; a memory(70) for storing the request command, inputted through the key input unit, and data for preventing an afterimage of a screen on the display(50); and a controller(90) which controls brightness of each cell within plural block units set to the display(50) through the display driving unit(40) if a still image is displayed on the display(50) longer than a predetermined time. |
