PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection video display device, wherein a chromaticity value is improved by improving the conventional color separation unit. SOLUTION: In the projection video display device, the color separation unit has an incident plate provided with an aperture to transmit the light from a light source and an integrator, and a color separation surface is arranged on the emitting side of the integrator so as to be nearly in parallel to the emitting surface of the integrator, and a plurality of dichroic mirrors to transmit only the color light of a prescribed wavelength region and to reflect the color light of the other wavelength region are included. Also, the first dichroic mirror is arranged on the emitting surface of the first polarization separating prism, the second dichroic mirrors are arranged on both surfaces of the first polarization separating prism and the second polarization separating prism, and the third dichroic mirror is arranged on the emitting surface of the second polarization separating prism.
