PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide modified cross-section polyester yarn capable of being stably produced by melt spinning at a high speed and suitable for giving a silky woven or knitted fabric which is decreased in unevenness of dyeability and in which a soft feeling with a fluff touch and a dry feeling are formed into a harmonious whole, while both the feelings are conventionally not balanced, by dissolving and removing an easily-dissolved component with an alkali, etc. SOLUTION: This modified cross-section polyester yarn comprises a core-and-sheath type conjugated polyester fiber which is composed of a sheath part comprising the easily-dissolved component and a core part comprising a hardly-dissolved component in a cross section of the fiber, wherein a polyester A in which 1-3 mol% of a dicarboxylic acid component comprises a component of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid having a sulfonate salt group and which contains 5-15 mass% of a polyalkylene glycol having an average molecular weight of 1,000 to 10,000 is used as the easily-dissolved component, a polyester B in which 80 mol% or more of whole structural units comprise polyethylene terephthalate is used as the hardly-dissolved component, the polyester A and the polyester B have specified relationship with respect to their melt viscosities, and the polyester A has such a cross section that protruding parts and fine grooves are alternately formed therein.
