<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading and recording apparatus which is small-sized, in which an installation area is reduced and operability is improved, and furthermore, which prevents erroneous operation, constitutes appearance of good look and enables beautiful display not to damage a display image. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading and recording apparatus includes a recording section and a flat bed type reading section disposed at an upper side of said recording section and comprised of a reading unit such as CCD or CIS and a pressing member for pressing a document or the like. A document pressing section comprised of a pressing member for pressing a non-transmission document has a rotation center at a deep side of a main body. Its front side is held so as to be freely turned up and down, and an operation panel comprising an operating button group and a display section is disposed at a front side of an upper part of said document pressing section.
