<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light guide plate and a back light including the light guide plate. <P>SOLUTION: The light guide plate includes a plane of incidence, a light emitting plane adjacent to the plane of incidence, and a reflection plane placed opposite to the light emitting plane. Two components of stress and strain acting on the light guide plate mutually perpendicularly intersect and a stress direction of one of them forms an angle of 0-90° with the plane of incidence. When δ expresses a phase difference of light, d expresses thickness of the light guide plate, C expresses an optical constant of relative strerss, Δσ expresses a stress difference, and λ expresses a wavelength of light, the phase difference δ of light due to the stress and strain satisfies the following equation. δ=2πCdΔσ/λ (1).
