<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To materialize display characteristics with a wide viewing angle by optically compensating a liquid crystal cell and uniformizing luminance of the liquid crystal cell, in particular luminance of a bend aligned cell, in all directions. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises: a pair of polarizing films; the liquid crystal cell (10) disposed therebetween; an optical compensation sheet (31, 32) which is disposed between at least one polarizing film and the liquid crystal cell, wherein the optical compensation sheet is composed of an optically anisotropic layer 1 (31) satisfying an inequality (I): 0.1<Re(40°)/<Re(0°)<3.0 and an inequality (II): 0.1<Re(-40°)/<Re(0°)<1.0 and an optically anisotropic layer 2 (32) satisfying an inequality (III): 10 nm<Re(0°)<70 nm and an inequality (IV): 70 nm<Rth<400 nm; and an optical diffusion layer with ≥45% and ≤70% haze value disposed on the uppermost surface. In the inequalities, Re(0°) is a retardation value measured with light incident from the film normal direction, and Re(40°) or Re(-40°) is a retardation value measured with light incident with 40° or -40° tilt angle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
