PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device for enabling a user to smoothly perform operations including "selecting any of a plurality of character groups with which a plurality of characters are respectively associated, and selecting any of characters associated with the group and inputting a character by determining the selected character as an input character".

SOLUTION: A display control part 140 makes a display means display a character input picture including a character group correspondence image associated with a plurality of character groups and an input candidate guidance image for guiding characters associated with a character group under consideration, where the character group correspondence image corresponding to the character group under consideration is discriminately displayed, and characters to be specified as the current selection input candidates among the characters associated with the character group under consideration are discriminately displayed in the input candidate guidance image. An input character determining part 138 determines the characters to be specified as the current selection input candidates as input characters according to an input character determining operation.
