PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader effective for both of adhesive dust and floating dust, and an image forming device using the same. SOLUTION: The image reader reads an image at a reading position on a contact glass 43 while transferring an original manuscript by fixing a reading part 5. When the original manuscript is set and if dust is detected by the dust detection on a reading line, the contact glass 43 and an original manuscript scooping-up member 85 are moved in the sub-scanning direction so as to remove the dust on the reading line.
