PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure good transferability without causing image defects such as image voids due to filming. SOLUTION: An image forming method is provided using an image forming apparatus with a primary transfer means for transfer to an intermediate transfer belt, wherein the intermediate transfer belt is an intermediate elastic transfer belt comprising a belt base material prepared by mixing two or more different elastic materials and a fluorocarbon resin- or silicone resin-based protective layer on one side or both sides of the belt base material, and wherein toner used contains a crystalline polyester and an amorphous polymer as a binder resin and has a core-shell structure of which the surface is covered with a surface layer based on the amorphous polymer. After the toner passes through a nip portion between an image carrier and the intermediate transfer belt, residual toner on the image carrier or the intermediate transfer belt has a coverage of the surface layer of 60-94%, represented by the expression (1): (coverage (%) of the surface layer)=((summation of exposure lengths of the surface layer)/(summation of toner perimeter))×100.
