PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clamp plates 1a, 1b as keeping them in the state where they are butted. SOLUTION: This clamping device has a stationary frame 10, a parallel crank mechanism 20 comprising four links 22, 24, 26, 28 which constitute each side of a parallelogram and one link 22 is fixed to the frame 10, a clamp block 30 which is attached to the link 24 which is movable in parallel to the one link 22 and a driving unit 40 for moving the link 24 on which the clamp block 30 is attached in parallel to the one link 22. In unclamped state, the connecting point (b) of the link 24 on which the clamp block 30 is attached is set so as to be higher than the connecting point (a) of the one link 22 and, in the state where the plate is clamped, a line segment by which the connecting points (a), (b) are tied is set as to be substantially parallel to the plate.
