PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing diabetic rats and to provide a method for identifying a compound capable of relieving such rats from diabetes. SOLUTION: Diabetic rats are produced by weaning 5-6 weeks after birth Zucker diabetic fatty(ZDF) rats administered with a diabetes-inducing feed(Purina 5008 or KLIBA 2437) followed by rearing the rats with a high-fat feed containing Kliba 2437 for 1-2 week(s).
