This invention provides a fuel battery system that has a simple construction and can increase the amount of water discharged from within a fuel battery. The fuel battery system includes a fuel battery (12) comprising an anode supplied with a hydrogen-containing anode gas and a cathode supplied with an oxygen-containing cathode gas to generate electric power, an exhaust valve (28) provided on the downstream of a fuel battery (12) in a gas circulation system for supplying an anode gas into the fuel battery (12), a regulator (46) provided on the upstream of the fuel battery (12) in the gas circulation system, for raising the pressure of gas in the gas circulation system, and ECU (40) for opening the exhaust valve (28) by a regulator (46) in such a state that the gas pressure has been raised to a higher value than the ordinary state. According to the above constitution, the gas flow velocity and flow rate within the fuel battery (12) can be increased, and the discharge amount of water collected within the fuel battery (12) can be increased. |
