An apparatus for relaying data and a method thereof are provided to enable an IPv4 supporting node to request data of an IPv6 supporting node and to receive the requested data. An apparatus for relaying data comprises an address transforming unit(440), a packet generating unit(410) and a transceiver(450). The address transforming unit(440) performs conversion between an address of a data requesting node and an address of a data providing node. The packet generating unit(410) generates packets including either a converted address or set detour information. The transceiver(450) transmits the generated packets, receives data from the data providing node, and transmits the received data to the data requesting node according to a response result. The detour information includes a flag expressing that an address system of the data requesting node is the same as an address system of the data providing node.
