A method for compressing a binary image at high speed is provided to improve a coding speed by detecting a block which continuously has the same pixel value from the binary image and performing coding by a block unit. A predictive value of an inputted current pixel is calculated on the basis of a context value calculated by using peripheral pixels(S210). It is judged whether the current pixel value, the context value, and the predictive value are same. It is judged whether the current pixel is a continuous pixel which continuously has the same pixel value as previous pixels inputted before the current pixel(S220,S230). When the current pixel is not the continuous pixel, it is judged whether the previous pixels are the continuous pixels. When the previous pixels are the continuous pixels, the continuous pixels are encoded by a block unit(S240). When the current pixel is the continuous pixel, after it is judged whether next pixels inputted after the current pixel are the continuous pixels by the block unit, the continuous pixels are encoded by the block unit(S250).
