The method involves downloading an application using an insecure downloading program of an insecure computer, where the application accompanies a signature value established by a trusted entity. A signature value verification program is executed from a storage medium. The secure application is executed using the insecure computer during the verification of the signature value with a correct value. The execution of the application is inhibited during the absence of the verification of signature value with the correct value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a system for executing an application on an insecure computer (2) a computer program product stored on a storage medium for execution by a computer for verifying a signature (3) a computer program product stored on a storage medium for execution by a computer for downloading applications (4) a computer program product stored on a storage medium for execution by a computer for verifying the validity of an authentication certificate.
