Disclosed is a security paper comprising a photoluminescent substance, wherein said photoluminescent substance has an excitation wavelength ranging from about 220 to 300 nm, and an emission wavelength which is higher than the excitation wavelength range, and wherein a coating is present on at least part of the security paper, on at least one side thereof, which coating is entirely or partially impervious to radiation in the excitation wavelength range of the photoluminescent substance. Also discloses are methods of manufacturing said security paper and a device used for detecting falsifications or forgeries of documents.
