Disclosed herein is a composition comprising: (a) one or more cyclopropenes of the formula (I), wherein R is hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, phenyl, or naphthyl group; wherein the substituents, when present, are independently halogen, alkoxy, or substituted or unsubstituted phenoxy; and, (b) one or more chelating agents. Also provided is a method that includes the step of contacting such compositions with one or more plants or plant parts for improving the effectiveness of cyclopropenes at blocking the effects of ethylene.
