A method for displaying an image screen in a portable terminal is provided to present various services to mobile users by rotating and displaying image data according to the rotation of a rotary device. If the rotation operation of a rotary device is generated after image data are displayed through a display part(201), a rotary device detection part detects a rotation signal generated by the rotation operation of the rotary device(202). The rotary device detection part extracts the rotational direction and speed of the rotary device from the detected rotation signal and outputs the extracted rotational direction and speed to a control part(203). The control part extracts the rotational angle of the rotary device using the extracted rotational direction and speed(204). The control part rotates and displays the displayed image data according to the extracted rotational angle(205).
