PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optically active imidazolium salt having plane asymmetry and a method for producing the optically active imidazolium salt in a high stereoselectivity. SOLUTION: The optically active imidazolium salt having plane asymmetry is represented by general formula I: (wherein, n indicates a cross-linking chain having 8 to 13 members, preferably 9 to 12 members between nitrogen and nitrogen of a imidazolium ring; R1, R2, R3and R4are each independently indicate hydrogen or the first substituent in the first position, the second position, the (n-1)-th position and the n-th position and at least one of R1to R4indicates a 1-14C first substituent; R5and R6indicate hydrogen or the second substituent; R7indicates a 1-14C third substituent; and X-indicates an anion).
