The local ATM network includes a first transmission and reception unit which contains a radio unit for transmitting cells to several other transmission and reception units. The radio unit has a first buffer memory (73) associated with another transmission and reception unit. The first buffer memory is provided to store a cell whose address is another transmitter and receiver associated with the first buffer memory. The radio unit may have a first control circuit to delete a cell in the first buffer memory after confirmation of correct reception.
