Provided is a storage medium managing apparatus which can adopt management information including suitable information from a plurality of pieces of management information stored in a storage medium. An optical disc device (1) manages an optical disc (2), which is provided with a plurality of management areas wherein management information for managing data is recorded and recording order of the management information in the management areas is previously decided. The optical disc device is provided with a management information acquiring section (52), which reads the management information in the same order as the previously decided recording order and acquires leading management information which is the management information correctly read first.
