<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging apparatus automatically recovered even if a protection function of an AC adapter operates, and to provide a method for controlling the apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: When the protection function of the AC adapter 1 operates, a voltage detector 17 detects an output voltage from the AC adapter 1 less than a preset threshold, and instructs a stop control section 16 to stop an operation of a charging IC 12. If an output current from the AC adapter 1 approaches 0, an protection operation of the AC adapter 1 is released, an operation point of the AC adapter 1 transits to a rated voltage output point.
