PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bone anchoring element, which can be inserted into the bone more rapidly, more easily and with less force than conventional bone screws and nails. SOLUTION: The bone anchoring element 1 comprises a shaft 2 with a tip 3 at one end and a head 4 at the other end for anchoring in a bone. The shaft 2 comprises a plurality of barb elements 12 that are arranged along at least one helical line around a shaft axis, and the barb elements are integrally formed in a tubular body 10 which is a part of the shaft. The barb elements are cut from the wall of the tubular body 10 and respectively have free cutting edges 14, and the cutting edges are inclined by an angle with regard to an annular circumference line.
