PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking mechanism to be used in fluid pressure apparatus, which locking mechanism can surely and stably restrict the displacement of a piston and can elongate the durability thereof. SOLUTION: A head cover 14 fixed to the end portion of a cylinder tube 12 is provided with the locking mechanism 22 arranged at the position opposed to a piston rod 20. The locking mechanism 22 is composed of a holder 32 to be mounted to the head cover 14, a plurality of balls 36 to be held so as to move in the radial direction with respect to the holder 32, and a translating member 38 for translating the balls 36 under the state that the elastic force by an elastic member 40 is applied. A lock pin 48 connected to the end portion of the piston rod 20 is inserted into the holder 32. The displacement of the lock pin 48 can be restricted by engaging the balls 36 with the ball groove 94 of the lock pin 48, and by holding the balls 36 by the elastic force of the elastic member 40.
