PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type viewing apparatus in which a display surface can be easily moved without causing an interference problem with other pieces of equipment, observers, etc., in a limited narrow space. SOLUTION: The projection type viewing apparatus having a projector 1a and a display panel 2, has an arm 3 which supports the display panel 2. The arm 3 is equipped with: a plurality of cylindrical members 3a-3e having a transmission optical path for guiding to the display panel 2 a luminous flux emitted from the projector 1a; and rotating sections 3i, 3j, 3k and contracting sections 3l, 3m, 3n which function as displacing means, wherein the display panel 2 can be displaced in a prescribed direction, with the optical axes○2,○3,○4 of the outgoing luminous fluxes from the projector 1a as the reference when they pass through the inside of at least one of the plurality of cylindrical members 3a-3e.
