PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern forming method which imparts a high degree of freedom to a pattern to be formed, which can bring about a novel uneven pattern, and which can contribute to a reduction in waste. SOLUTION: After a coating material is applied to a base material, a coating film is pressed by means of a specific pressing implement so that the uneven pattern can be formed, before the coating material is dried. In the pressing implement, a protrusive streak C with an arbitrary pattern is provided inside a virtual polygon, and a protrusive edge is provided on each side of the virtual polygon. In an area adjacent to a pressing surface, when the pressing surface is turned in such a manner that the central point of the virtual polygon serves as an axis, the protrusive streaks C are provided in such a manner that the edges of the protrusive streaks correspond to each other on sides superposed on each other.
