A plasma display panel is provided to improve a contrast characteristic and a color temperature characteristic by forming a black layer having a predetermined pattern on a front panel. A black layer(304) having a predetermined pattern is formed on a front panel. A rear panel is attached to the front panel. The rear panel includes barrier ribs(312) for defining unit discharge cells including R, G and B sub-discharge cells. Red, green and blue phosphors are coated on the R, G and B sub-discharge cells. The predetermined pattern of the black layer is formed to cover a part of discharge space of one sub-discharge cell of the sub-discharge cells.
