A data reception method using IrDA(Infrared Data Association) of a mobile communication terminal is provided to allow a processor to automatically execute and process a reception-related menu when a file is received to the terminal through IrDA communication, thus a user can conveniently receive data through the IrDA communication. When a transmission side's mobile communication terminal selects a transmission file in a directory of the file to be transmitted, a receiving side's mobile communication terminal automatically executes a reception-related menu and sends a reception standby signal to the transmission side's terminal(S80-S94). The transmission side's terminal starts to transmit the file, and transmits a transmission complete signal if the transmission of the file is finished(S96). The receiving side's terminal stores the file in a directory, and if the reception is finished, a reception complete signal is received to finish receiving data(S98-S102).
