A vacuum cleaner having a separator for separating dust by inertial force is provided to improve the dust collection operation by effectively accumulating dust in a dust collecting unit and prohibiting dust from adhering to the filter again. A vacuum cleaner having a separator for separating dust by inertial force comprises: a separation device case formed with a dust discharge outlet; a motor-driven blower for generating the negative pressure in the separation device case; a separation device installed in the separation device case, formed with a separation chamber communicating with the dust discharging outlet, and installed to filter dust in the air sucked in the separation device case by inertial force; a dust collecting unit for collecting dust separated by the separation device; a filter for capturing dust passing through the separation device; a dust dropping device(71) for dropping dust captured by the filter; and a shield member moving between a first position and a second position, connecting the dust discharge outlet with the separation chamber while staying at the first position, and separating the dust discharge outlet from the separation chamber while staying at the second position.
