PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting a residual amount of ink by preventing erroneous detection of the residual amount of ink, and an inkjet recorder using the method. SOLUTION: This recorder has both of residual amount detection functions respectively using an optical detection method and a dot-counting method. In order to solve the problem that optical detection is missed by an external cause, when an accumulated value of a consumption amount of ink measured by counting of dots is less than a prescribed threshold, an optical judgment result of the absence of the residual ink in a first space is ignored only at the first time. In the case where the absence of ink is judged by the optical detection the number of times not less than a prescribed value, the optical detection judgment result is prioritized even when the accumulated value of the consumption amount of ink by the counting of dots is less than the threshold, thereby eliminating the mismatching in the detection of the residual amount of ink.
