PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that when an alternate driving method by which a plurality of nozzle groups are alternately made to discharge within a driving period in order to shorten a period of time required for a preliminary discharge is executed, a poor discharge may be invited by the vibration of a meniscus depending on a frequency of discharges in a head having a plurality of nozzle groups for which total ink quantities being discharged at the time of driving are different such as a nozzle for large liquid droplets and a nozzle for small liquid droplets. SOLUTION: The alternate driving method which alternately drives different nozzle groups, and a method which drives different nozzle groups in order are made selectable. Also, a toggle driving method and the method which drives nozzles in order are executed by selecting one of them depending on the motion of the preliminary discharge.
