PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide light source equipment for an endoscope which prevents a slippage of a diaphragm that adjusts the amount of illumination light. SOLUTION: The light source equipment for an endoscope radiates illumination light from a light source onto an incident end face of a connected light guide. The light source equipment has a plurality of diaphragm apertures having different aperture ratios or transmittances, a diaphragm means for moving selectively one of the diaphragm apertures between the incident end face and the light source, a driving means for moving the diaphragm means, a search detection means for detecting that a specified diaphragm aperture of the diaphragm means is disposed between the incident end face and the light source, a diaphragm aperture position detection means for detecting that one of the diaphragm apertures is disposed between the incident end face and the light source, a measurement means for measuring the driven amount of the driving means on the basis of the position detected by the search detection means, and a control means for actuating the driving means on the basis of the measurement results of both the detection means and the measurement means.
