PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To greatly decrease a labor at fabricating a drive means for driving a presser bar lifter mechanism, lower manufacturing costs, save the space and improve the appearance in a sewing machine. SOLUTION: The sewing machine is provided with a machine head 1 consisting of a head 2, a vertical body part 3 and an arm 4, the presser foot lifter mechanism 30 and a drive motor 6 for driving the mechanism 30. The motor 6 is disposed near a rear and outer side wall 3a of the body part 3.
