Method for diagnosing metabolic syndrome, its precursor or early forms, associated and sequential diseases; type II diabetes; insulin resistance; obesity and related metabolic diseases in which the concentration of the adipocyte form of fatty acid binding protein (A-FABP) is determined in a body fluid and used as an indicator of fatty acid transport capacity. An independent claim is also included for a test kit for the new method comprising, immobilized on a carrier, an agent (X) with affinity for A-FABP or its fragments. ACTIVITY : Antidiabetic; Anorectic. No details of tests for these activities are given. MECHANISM OF ACTION : A-FABP (or its fragments or mimetics) block the activity of A-FABP or its receptors.
