ELECTRONIC PROGRAM GUIDE METHOD AND APPARATUS USING CAPTURED STILL IMAGE OF DIGITAL MULTIMEDIA BROADCASTING

An EPG method and an apparatus using a still image of digital multimedia broadcasting are provided to supply a user with a captured image screen being currently transmitted in a broadcast channel instead of the previously generated fixed image, thereby providing a guide being directly helpful to the user in channel selection. An EPG(Electronic Program Guide) method using a still image of digital multimedia broadcasting comprises the following steps of: capturing a still image from broadcast data of each received broadcast program(910~916); combining the captured still image with EPG data for each broadcast program and storing the combined data(916); and displaying the captured still image with the EPG data(922). The step of capturing the still image comprises the following steps of: receiving a frame indicating a compressed image of a main channel and determining whether the frame of the main channel is a key frame; decoding a non-key frame of the main channel and outputting the decoded non-key frame as an image signal of the main channel if the received frame of the main channel is not a key frame.
