PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing pyridylazulenes, which is lessened in reaction processes in comparison with a conventional method and good in a yield. SOLUTION: Pyridylazulenes are produced by reacting an azulene derivative represented by formula (1) with a halopyridine (in the formula R is a hydroxy group, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or a ring structure formed with two Rs being bonded to each other).
