PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forklift capable of supporting a long object to be handled in front of a chassis, and zippy in a narrow path. SOLUTION: In the forklift 1, an elevating/lowering carriage 4 for holding an object 2 to be handled in front of the traveling direction of a chassis 3 is supported in an elevating/lowering manner by a mast 7 for connecting a base end 5 to the chassis 3 while a tip 6 extending onto the chassis 3. The base end 5 of the mast 7 is pin-joined with the chassis 3. Thus, the mast 7 can be turned with the base end 5 as a supporting point, resulting in a posture that the mast is erected on the chassis 3 or in a posture that the mask is collapsed with the tip 6 directed backwardly in the traveling direction.
