<p>Small-scale sewage plant comprises a treatment tank (19) equipped with an aerator (1) and a submerged pump (15) that is connected via a throttle (17) to a clean water outlet (21) and cooperates with a pressure-activated barrier device (11) that is connected both to a riser pipe (12) that has an air supply (2) and leads via a connecting pipe (4) to a sludge storage tank (18) and to a passage (22) leading via an isolating valve to an activated sludge collector (10). An independent claim is also included for discontinuously operating a sewage plant as above by filling the treatment tank with water up to a height H, aerating the water, sedimenting activated sludge in the treatment tank, pumping water through the riser pipe into the sludge storage tank while the isolating valve is closed, closing the barrier device when a predetermined volume of water has been displaced through the riser pipe and, when a predetermined amount of water has been drawn off, switching off the pump and opening the barrier device to balance the levels in the sludge storage tank and the treatment tank.</p> |
