A method for providing different service characteristics according to the position of the terminal, includes: sets a configuration list for each mobile switch center in the network according to the division of the service areas, said configuration list contains coincidence relation between the cells and the service areas in the coverage of the mobile switch center; generates a special service list for each service area, which contains identifiers of corresponding mobile switch centers and corresponding service characteristics according to the users' subscribed information, and stores the configuration list in the home location register; when the terminal registers, the home location register fetches the special service list relating to the mobile switch center to which the terminal currently belongs, and gives it back to the visitor location register; when the service of the terminal is operated, said mobile switch center uses said configuration list to confirm current service area according to the cell in which the terminal currently locates, and uses the special service list corresponding to current service area to control current service of the terminal.
