PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite type recording and reproducing device having a function to facilitate retrieval as to what titles are included in which optical disks by previously holding a menu of an optical disk in a hard disk. SOLUTION: Disk menu screens are captured from the optical disk reproduced in an optical disk device 2 and are recorded to the hard disk 14 and disk names are memorized in a flash ROM 6. The disk menu screens are sequentially thumbnail-displayed and the selection items are displayed in highlight. The disk menu screens selected by key operations are taken out of the hard disk 14 and are displayed over the entire screen. If the optical disk having the disk menu screen subjected to the title selection by the highlight of the disk menu pictures is the optical disk of the disk name described above, the assigned title is searched from the optical disk 13 and the reproduction is started.
