PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vending machine which makes compatible both the transmission and the reception of maintenance information, and electronic settlement. SOLUTION: The vending machine has a main control section 40 which manages the overall control, and a communication adapter 30 connected to the main control section 40. The vending machine can transmit and receive maintenance information via the communication adapter 30 among the main control section 40 and handy terminals, and the section 40 equipped with a communication adapter via the communication adapter 30, and makes electronic settlement possible between cellular phones equipped with the communication adapter. The vending machine has a switching means 42 for switching the communication adapter 30, to a state which can transmit and receive maintenance information during merchandising standby and switching the communication adapter 30 to a state, in which the electronic settlement is enabled during merchandising operation.
