PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable intermittent printing such as print alignment, that is, printing and stopping are repeated in a short period of time, in high density printing by performing an operation for suppressing paper wrinkles with respect to thin continuous forms having small ream weight, and by reducing the conveyance resistance of continuous forms at print start time, with respect to thick continuous forms having large ream weight, in a fixing device for a continuous paper image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The printer has: a preheater which tightly adheres to a paper by sucking it and has a heating means for preheating the paper, a heating roller incorporating a heater; and a pressure roller which is supported to be separable from the heating roller and is rotated in press-contact with the heating roller. The printer allows the paper to pass through between the heating roller and the pressure roller through the preheater, to fix a toner image formed on the paper. A means for reducing paper conveyance resistance at print start time is provided. The means is composed of: a suction groove provided in the preheater; and a means for blocking almost both ends of the suction groove, during print standby, that is, when separation from the heating roller is carried out.
