PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector with a simplified structure the image display quality of which is enhanced by correcting a projected shape at switching between laterally long arrangement and longitudinally long arrangement of the projector. SOLUTION: The projector 20 for projecting a projected image with a prescribed aspect ratio to a projected position deviated from a projection lens optical axis by a prescribed angle includes: a longitudinal/lateral discrimination means 2 for discriminating longitudinal/lateral arrangement of the projector; a CPU 1 for generating a correction command for correcting an image shape depending on a difference between the image projected position at the laterally long arrangement of the projector and the image projected position at the longitudinally long arrangement of the projector on the basis of a result of the discrimination by the longitudinal/lateral discrimination means 2; an image forming means 3 for controlling a DMD 8 for forming a corrected projected image 11 on the basis of the correction command from the CPU 1; and a projecting lens 10 for projecting the projected image 11 formed by the image forming means 3 onto a screen by using illumination light through a lens 6a of a lighting device 6 led to the DMD 8 via a light guide 7 and mirrors 9a, 9b.
