PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk device capable of shortening time for starting disk reproduction/recording. SOLUTION: An objective lens 2 is raised toward the surface of a disk 1 while emitting a Blue-ray Disc laser from the objective lens 2. When a focus error signal based on the reflected light of a laser in the recording layer of the disk 1 is detected after the detection of a focus error signal based on the reflected light of a laser in the surface of the disk 1, the disk 1 is determined to be a Blu-ray Disc, or a CD or a DVD otherwise.
